Having one's cremated remains sprinkled on the moon is not a new phenomenon. The first person to be buried on an extraterrestrial surface was scientist Eugene Shoemaker on July 31, 1999, approximately 25 years ago. Since that time many notable people have chosen space funerals, including Star Trek actors from the original TV series, astronauts, physicists, and artists. Interestingly, you don't have to be a celebrity to arrange for a burial in space. Two companies - Celestis and Elysium Space - offer various types of burial experiences and rideshare packages, ranging from US $2,500 to approximately US $12,500. |
