How long can a rosebush live? |
|
According to Atlas Obscura, the oldest living roses have been with us for more than 1,000 years. The Rosebush of Hildesheim stands approximately 10 meters tall and grows on the walls of the Cathedral of Hildesheim (Germany). It is believed that the pale pink roses were planted in AD 815 by King Louis the Pious. In 1945, bombs destroyed the cathedral, and burned the rosebush. But, its roots survived. |

Is there a Hindu Cupid? |
|
The answer is both yes - and no. The Hindus had a remarkably similar love god called Kamadeva which predated Cupid/Eros by several centuries. Like Cupid, Kamadeva shot love arrows into hearts from a bow. But, he didn't have wings. Instead, Kamadeva rode a large parrot named Suka. Also, unlike Cupid, Kamadeva had a bow made of sugarcane and 5 floral arrows. |

Answer: Thanks for listening, Andy. Great question! You're right about honey bees staying inside their hives throughout the winter months. In order to cope with the cold, the bees bunch together in a giant ball and almost continuously shiver their flight muscles to generate heat to keep the hive at a liveable temperature. Cool, eh?
